Ok, now it is time to get serious:) Here are 4 different icons for Escape RIG21 with and without title and in small size. Any comments or preferences? #RebelNature will soon come alive.
I feel like the bright green in number 2 is a little too harsh. I'm also not sure how I feel about the inward bevel like edges of numbers 2 and 4, makes it a little bit too complex I think. I like the idea of having just the simple logo in number 4, but I feel like that image is more representative of Rebel Nature as a whole, and not Rig 21 in particular. The same goes for Res' face in number 1.
So I definitely feel like number 3 is the strongest option. It's fairly clean and simple, clearly represents the content of the app, and still makes use of the "power symbol" that seems to be a good representation of the whole of Rebel Nature.
As for the text, I'm leaning slightly more towards not including it. It could potentially be hard to read on a smaller icon, and not including it makes it cleaner. I also feel like the image of number 3 does a good enough job representing the app that the text isn't needed, although, number 1 would probably need it.
3 is drawing me the most, the ocean wave dividing the icon is really attention-grabbing. The more solid, integrated application of the icon in 3 versus 2 and 4 also just feels right, though I can't pinpoint any specific reasons as to why. I do really like the metal detailing in 2 and 4 as well.
I personally prefer the look of including the text over omitting it, but I don't have much experience with smaller mobile devices, so I don't have any idea as to whether the text would become obscured at that scale, as others have suggested.
Hey Christian, I never noticed it until now, but Res looks a lot like Miyazaki's Nausicaa, another environmental heroine who I'm sure you've heard of. Did Nausicaa and the works of Miyazaki have any influence in the creation of Rebel Nature? If so, you chose a pretty good source of inspiration.
.I'm really honoured by your comparison. It is impossible not to be inspired by Miyazaki and of cause his storytelling, attention to detail, calmness and amazing imagination is a big part of my foundation. I would love to do a nordic mix of Miyazaki and my greatest european heroes: Luc Besson (The Big Blue, The 5th Element, Leon) and Jean-Claude Mézières (The Valerian comic series) with a few ingredients of my own. The biologic evolutionary inspiration as seen in Bionicle. One of the biggest differences is that the RebelNature universe is not post apocalyptic. It is a evolutionary jump by nature that sets off the conflict and Res is caught in the middle. She is our young guide venturing out into this unpredictable future. A #RebelNature future where one kid can tip the balance and one story can make a difference.
Definitely the first one, I think it's really important to emphasise character at this stage to get people interested in the bigger picture of the project. Character is always what connects with people the most, and will hopefully help people realise that there's more to it than just a game.
I really like the type 3# Semi submerged RIG21 icon
ReplyDeleteI like designs 1 and 3 the most.
ReplyDeleteEither the first or the last, definitely.
ReplyDelete1 or 3 is my vote, rearing more towards 1 still.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm liking #2 and #3 the most.
ReplyDelete#2 is my choice. The single-color background allows for a tidy home screen, and the two-tone ring keeps it interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe version without text is better. Most people will be looking at the icon on a small screen, where the small text will just be clutter.

#1 and #3 are the best in my opinion. The both are very cool. Also it looks better with the title.
ReplyDeleteNumber 3, definitely.
ReplyDeleteNo 3, because the tower is clearly visible at first glance, then reading the title, you get an idea of how the gameplay is going to be and looks like.
ReplyDeleteIcon #3 suitable for the style of the project and looks very cool. And, as said Scorp Jr - it looks better with the title.

ReplyDeleteI prefer the 3d one with title.
ReplyDeleteNumber 3: Submerged!

ReplyDeleteReally looking forward to this!
I say that Icon 3 without text represents the app concept and #RebelNature better and would look nice on most mobile screens.
ReplyDelete3# with font for sure, that one looks so cool and attractive. People will definitely notice that in the App Store :)
